Hazy Mountain Vineyard Nature Walk

Hazy Mountain would like to invite you on a nature walk at our property on Sunday, August 11, from 9-11 am, sponsored by Sancta Natura, a project founded by nature guides, committed to providing free nature education to the public.

This walk is for adults and kids 14+ that can handle a partially sloped one mile loop around the property. We will travel roads and paths that run along forest edges and through small forest patches, between ponds, and around some of the vineyards, learning about flora and fauna we encounter, with a focus on birds. In late summer, we may get to see and hear some of the following: resident breeding migrants, such as Indigo Buntings, Scarlet Tanagers, Common Yellowthroats, Red-eyed Vireos, Eastern Wood-pewees, Great crested and Acadian Flycatchers, and others, as well as some of our common year-round species, like cardinals, goldfinches, bluebirds, meadowlarks, mockingbirds, several woodpeckers, chickadees, titmice, and raptors, and we may have the possibility to glimpse a Bald Eagle, or our only highly migratory raptor, the Broad-winged Hawk. Tom Wyatt, the guide, will have a spotting scope to put stationary birds in focus, and we will learn about other animals we see, and several important plants found in central Virginia.

The Nature walk will start at the on-site Villa with parking at this address 8728 Dick Woods Road, Afton, VA 22920. This is a free event, however space is limited and registering for the event prior is required. You can sign up at the link below.
