charlottesville area nominated as best wine region in 24th annual
Wine Star Award
“The great irony of Thomas Jefferson’s failed ambitions to create a new Bordeaux in the newly established United States of America is that, centuries later, a thriving wine industry has grown along the Monticello Wine Trail, through the heart of the eponymous AVA near the city of Charlottesville. Earlier this year, 58 of the 142 gold medals awarded at the state’s Governor’s Cup competition went to members of the Monticello Wine Trail. The success of the wineries has helped support a thriving tourism infrastructure in the city that is providing a base for wine lovers to discover an historic region with a dynamic new wine scene.”

My Day on the Hazy Mountain Social Media Vineyard and Cellar Tour
“We sampled and compared some other varietals – comparing wine being made from different vineyards and methodology and how that impacts the wine itself. …The Pinot Noir is not available right now except to club members, though Luke said that will hopefully shift in the future. I have yet to talk anyone here who hasn’t loved it, and so I strongly suggest you check it out.
Hazy is much more than a venue, and judging by the barrel tasting, the best is yet to come!”

2022 made in virginia winner
Hazy Mountain is honored to be named a Made In Virginia award winner for our 2020 Chenin Blanc.
“At the crossroads of two federally defined American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) lies Hazy Mountain Vineyards, where winemaker Luke Trainum and his team are out to “blow away any doubts that the finest wines in the world can be produced right here in Virginia.” Grown at Hazy’s production vineyard in Swoope, which is part of the Shenandoah Valley AVA, the 2020 Chenin Blanc grape, rare in Virginia, is fermented and aged exclusively in large format French oak puncheons, giving the wine a distinct texture, balanced with a vibrant acidity. It’s light, crisp, smooth, and mild enough to suit a wide variety of palates.
The editors of Virginia Living magazine received more than 200 entries from across the state for this year’s Made in Virginia Awards. After reviewing, tasting, and testing all of them, 30 winners from 20 cities have been selected for feature in the December 2022 issue, the magazine’s special 20th Anniversary edition. The winners spotlight Virginia makers’ skill, talent, and creativity across a range of categories, including Food, Drink, Style & Beauty, and Home & Lifestyle.” - Virginia Living Magazine
